The Tulsa Zoo is a magical place for all ages. They have really conformed to the CDC recommendations to help stop the spread of Covid. You have to go online to purchase your tickets and reserve the time you will be going, and they stagger the times to help maintain social distancing. The zoo also requires masks be worn when you are inside a building, and they have hand-washing stations throughout the park.

The zoo itself has unique habitats for the animals with room to spread out. You will enjoy the Rainforest and Reptile Houses along with the lions, tigers, and bears...oh my!
  • I recently was invited to play a round of golf with my friend David at LaFortune Golf Course. Here we have a par three golf course that is lighted in the evenings so players can enjoy the cooler evenings. A par three is challenging because it really puts your short game to the test and allows for faster play. Under the lights, the 110-yard drive off the tee visually looks like 150+ yards. The shadows and lighting create a challenge to your depth perception and ability to stay on course. For beginning golfers or those of us who love the game, but may only play a few times a year, this creates a competitive environment and hones in the yardage. Check out golf under the lights at LaFortune Park Golf Course.

The Tulsa Botanic Garden is eight miles northwest of Tulsa. What a great place to bring the family and enjoy the 170-acre display of trees, annuals, perennials, shrubs, ponds, sculptures, and more. It a great place to see how well various plants thrive in the always-changing Oklahoma climate. Put on your walking shoes, bring your camera, and be sure to bring a refreshing beverage to help keep you hydrated. With so many varieties of plants in bloom, the gardeners deserve kudos for keeping the gardens so well maintained, a real labor of love for sure!

Since I wanted to make sure that I could get admission, I checked the website and found that the garden reopened to the public on June 1. Admission will be limited, and advance tickets will be required. No walk-in admission will be allowed. That was good to know! The physical address of Tulsa Botanic Garden is 3900 Tulsa Botanic Drive, Tulsa, OK 74127.

If you're new to Tulsa or just visiting, be sure to visit the Swan Lake neighborhood and see one of Tulsa's hidden treasures. Tucked away in the midtown area, Swan Lake is a historic district in Tulsa and borders 15th Street to the north, Utica Street to the east, 21st Street to the south, and Peoria Avenue to the west. The Historic District, developed in the early 20th century as a middle-class residential area, features some very well preserved single-family homes, a few duplexes and apartment buildings.

Early on in Tulsa's development, it was the site of an amusement park, but as progress rolled forward it has now become notable for the number and architectural variety of houses and apartment buildings constructed in the 1920s and 1930s. In 2011, the American Planning Association named Swan Lake as a Top Ten Great Neighborhood.
In the midst of all the busy lifestyle of the city, it's a wonderful place to relax and unwind! Check it out sometime, you'll be glad you did!
