Quail Creek is dear to my heart because I was born here and came back to raise my family. I was able to watch my children walk to school every morning and had the best community around me, which turned into life-long friends. Not only did I raise my children and have a community back then, but to this day we all still get together for cookouts and plan things together. There are so many things I love about this neighborhood.

At almost any time of day, you can see children of all ages, neighbors, or dog walkers at Quail Creek Park. There is a pretty white bridge that crosses the creek and allows access from the park to the neighboring homes. The park is newer, nice, and clean with benches and picnic tables. You will find plenty of shade because of the trees and the gazebo. Additionally, the playground equipment for the children is exceptional. The park has been a part of the neighborhood Fourth of July parade for many years and is home to monthly music in the park during the summer months. Moms groups, exercise groups, and meetings often take place in the park. The park is a beautiful location for a jog, stroll, or walking dogs. Most children growing up in the community have held at least one of their birthday parties in the park! The Quail Creek Park was dedicated to one of the neighborhood's beloved community leaders who organized the annual 4th Of July parade where residents dressed in red, white, and blue proceed through the neighborhood in bikes and various vehicles and arrive at the end to enjoy a picnic, band and other fun activities at the park. She was devoted to multiple organizations but loved her neighbors and viewed Quail Creek Park as tremendously important to family and friends as a place to gather.

Quail Creek neighborhood has always been a household name in the OKC metro for decades. Quail Creek is an established community that started in 1960 as the dream of local developer Everett Dale who chose 1/2 acre to 2/3 acre lots and a minimum home size of 2,000 square feet for the ever-increasing family size of the times. Quail Creek is a highly desirable neighborhood of well-built homes of quality and affordability that is not only considered iconic, but it is truly a destination community in NW Oklahoma City. It's February - the month for love! I'm happy to report that I'm in love with Uptown Grocery on N. May Avenue, just north of Britton Road. It opened on February 4th and my first visit was the next day. No grass grows under this realtor's high heels!

For purposes of full disclosure, I must admit that I hate shopping for groceries! While other people aspire to have their homes cleaned by someone else, I dream of having someone else do my grocery shopping. The crowded aisles and mindless layouts make me crazy. By the time I get to the long checkout lines, I'm "fit to be tied!" as my mother used to say.

But, when I walked into Uptown the first time, I was pleasantly surprised. It was spacious and open and didn't make me feel crowded. I was with my two grandchildren, so I grabbed a cart and loaded them in it and off we went. I told them we were on a field trip. We were going exploring.

They live in Edmond, so they were my tour guides, because they have been to the Uptown in Edmond many times. By the way, they are three and six years old, so I was in good hands.
First, they guided me to the cookies/cake and otherwise beautiful baked items, naturally. They were given a sugar cookie, so we were set to go. We circled the sushi bar and watched the bakers toss pizzas and then to the live lobster tank, not missing the fire oven roasting chickens along the way. We moved slowly passed the prepared foods, which looked delicious. A big slice of meatloaf caught my eye! We saw the Beans and Berry Bar, followed by the adorable steps up to what will eventually be a pub! Yes, a pub! They will serve wine and beer and the space will also be used for meetings, parties and cooking lessons. When we went up, we could see a panoramic view of the beautiful store. Eye candy for a foodie!

I know it probably sounds silly for a grown woman to be excited about a grocery store, but I've lived in Oklahoma City for a long time and I remember the days of Humpty Dumpty and Albertson's. It wasn't until the last few years that Oklahoma City has added new and exciting shopping experiences. While I enjoy Whole Foods and am excited about Trader Joe's coming to Oklahoma City, I enjoy supporting locally owned businesses! With all else being equal, supporting locally-owned is the trump card for me.

Hank Binkowski owns Buy-for-Less stores and now has ventured into a completely different shopping experience. I applaud his creativity as I just look at the outside of the store and see that it isn't your typical grocery store! And inside, amazing! (I can picture a similar store in Bricktown, Midtown, or nearby...hint, hint.)

I do care about prices, so I will compare when I venture past the sushi bar! But I also care about convenience, my shopping experience and quality. Oh, and I can't wait to try out their online shopping! May be the perfect thing for this anti-grocery shopper. I'll keep you posted.

P.S. Hank Binkowski is the owner. I met him because I was taking pictures inside the store and evidently, they frown on that. Competition and all, but after a loyal employee "turned me in", I explained my purpose and he gave me a guided tour and introduced me to some of his employees. He also said that if I find something that I feel needs his attention, to tell him or a manager. He expressed their commitment to quality and customer service. I like that!
  • I'm a member of Quail Creek Golf and Country Club and I love everything about this place. They recently remodeled and upgraded the ladies lounge and the workout facility so nicely that I was able to drop my local gym membership and just work out at the country club.

Quail Creek is located in a very accessible and highly desired housing neighborhood area of NW OKC. Right off 122nd and Lake Hefner Parkway, you have very easy access to all of Edmond and Oklahoma City.

I found out that the club is currently running a nice membership incentive and I encourage you to check out not only the workout facility at Quail Creek, but the golf course and social activities there! It's a great deal and you'll love how much fun this country club is for members.
