Why the name "Automobile Alley" you ask? The historic North Broadway strip was home to the city's car dealerships in the 1920s. Once the potential of growth was realized, it has since become a popular attraction in OKC as home to restaurants, shops, boutiques, bars, and businesses. The street is lined with lit neon signs hanging from their original buildings that welcome you to enjoy all that the city has to offer. Shopping local is made easy here as there are plenty of options to choose from. Here, the past and present mesh together to create an old-school look, but with a fresh, vibrant feel.

The quaint hip neighborhood of iconic vintage brick buildings once home to OKC's early century car dealerships is now repurposed and a super trendy place for dining, shopping, and living! Neon signs of past and present now adorn businesses and pedestrian-friendly shops ready to share in your new nostalgic experiences of the area.

Are you looking for a sweet treat and a magical experience? Katiebug's is located on 9th just east of Broadway. It is like walking into another world, and the treats are amazing! Each season the decorations outside and inside change. Christmas is my absolute favorite! Go grab a hot chocolate and a cookie this season!

Located in the former Mercedes showroom on Broadway and 11th in downtown Oklahoma City, Jimmy B's is, in my mind, one of the best new restaurants in the city! The sleek and casual atmosphere has comfortable leather banquettes, exposed wood beams, and retro brick walls. Who doesn't love a beautiful exposed brick wall?.

Jimmy B's has an inviting living room look, tasteful art, flattering lighting, and a relaxed vibe where lunch and dinner conversations swirl. The large open-air patio, situated on the southeast corner of the property, features an outdoor fireplace surrounded by Adirondack chairs to provide a relaxing space to enjoy first-rate dining and cocktails! If you're new to town, just visiting, or have lived in the city your whole life, this restaurant is a must-visit!

If you have driven up and down Broadway Avenue, I'm sure you have noticed the brand new building at the northeast corner of 5th and Broadway. This seven-story, $40 million headquarters was completed earlier this year and was said to bring hundreds of tech jobs to downtown Oklahoma City. With an anchor tenant such as Heartland Payment Systems, you know the building has been beautifully done too!

Oklahoma Contemporary Art Center's new location at NW 11th and Broadway is home to Folding Light, a state-of-the-art building designed by Rand Elliott and named after the way the metal exterior of the building will interact with Oklahoma's ever-changing sky. This new art museum and venue has brought to the Automobile Alley District a brand new, multi-purpose flex space where visitors can walk around and take in the beauty of the museum while also envisioning being able to host a wide variety of events, including weddings, theatrical performances, corporate events, multi-day business conferences, and other special events. With so much to offer here and in the Automobile Alley District in general, you will want to put this new beautiful museum toward the top of your "to-do" list!
  • Looking for dining and drinks inspiration in the Midtown and Downtown OKC area? What a pleasant surprise to discover so many new things popping up in this area. My discovery of Parlor in Downtown OKC really made my day! Parlor is located east of Broadway on NE 6th.
The most impressive meal that I enjoyed at Parlor? The Mother Clucker! You have to see it and eat it to believe it! Check them out soon!

Have you tried the nachos at Iguana on 9th Street? They are really good and what you can't believe is under all that goodness is queso!! Ate them before I remembered to take a picture, but take my word for it. Dining here is not Tex-Mex, it's very unique.

Rejoice! The Lights on Broadway is back again this year. What an amazing event that kickoffs the holiday season as we head straight into Thanksgiving. Stroll down historic Automobile Alley for the districts holiday open house. Retail shops and restaurants will have holiday inspired window displays, children's activities, promotions and giveaways. Shop, visit with Santa, take a carriage ride and listen to live music. The store fronts will light up for the Second Annual Lights on Broadway, Novemebr 18, 4-8:00 p.m.
  • Do you have a favorite morning drink? Do you have a favorite spot to drink it? Coffee works for me and there is an Oklahoma City event that will fill your heart and cup with caffeinated goodness!

Oklahoma City is full of great locally owned and national chain coffee shops. It's always my preference to support and frequent the locally owned brown brew spots. The Caffeine Crawl is a great way to explore what is happening in Oklahoma City in the coffee and hot tea trade!
Nearly a dozen spots from Edmond to Norman are offering coffee drink and tastings seminars and samples on these caffeine guided tours of everyone's favorite get happy jitters brew.

My recommendations for great coffee anytime?

The Lobby Bar on Western Avenue, Coffee Slingers in Automobile Alley, All About Chai on Western and North May Avenue and Vintage Coffee on Western Avenue. Western Avenue also has a great "no drive through" Starbucks, which really improved the experience if you drink your coffee there.

Enjoy your jitters and explore Oklahoma City coffee culture at the Caffeine Crawl!
  • Your week may have been hard, but the treat of breakfast or brunch at the Hatch OKC along the historic Automobile Alley is going to start the weekend off on a sweet note. I promise the hardest part will be selecting from the delectable options, such as narrowing down your choices to just three for a "flight of pancakes". I chose Bananas Foster, Blueberry Streusel and Pina Caramelo. Let's just say wow!

Now all those luscious carbs need a side of protein and I recommend your taste buds adventure out with the Chicken Fried Eggs. Lightly battered and cooked to perfection, the delicate yet substantial eggs are served with Cholulu Ranch and Smoked Cheddar Hollandaise sauces. After all chicken fried anything is bound to be expected and delicious in this part of the country.

This isn't your usual hole in the wall breakfast spot, even though they serve the old classics. I hope you will venture out this weekend or weekday to experience a new morning taste sensation in the beauty of historic downtown Oklahoma City.
