Verdigris is situated on Rt 66 and I-44 and just along the Creek Turnpike. It sits six miles from Claremore and 18 miles from Tulsa. It was originally discovered by French fur traders when the territory was part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The name Verdigris from the French traders means 'vert' -green, and 'gris' -grey, perhaps indicating the water color of the river. Verdigris was part of the railway line of St Louis and San Francisco Railway and was the site of the railway switch in the 1880s. When the Spavinaw Lake Project began in order to supply Tulsa with water, the area's first large employer, Lock Joint Pipe Company, set up their manufacturing plant in Verdigris and operated until 1924. During this time Route 66 highway was also established. During and after World War II light industrial, manufacturing, and other jobs began to fill Verdigris. By the 90s the Port of Catoosa was also providing jobs to the locals in its industrial park of manufactured goods and agricultural products.

Now the town has approximately 4500 residents and most of those who don't work there, commute to Tulsa and Claremore with a commute time averaging 23 minutes and 12 minutes respectively. The school district of Verdigris has an overall grade of B+ on niche.com which also shows they are ranked #13 in Oklahoma with a student-teacher ratio of 15:1. One of the most known places to visit is called The Nut House where you can purchase various kinds of nut products produced locally in a quaint and charming building. Though the activities, parks, and tourist places may not reside within the city limits, Verdigris is located so conveniently that a trip to Claremore or Tulsa via Rt 66 or Interstate 44, is quick and easy making it a quiet place to live while still close to amenities.

    Verdigris, OK
Pieces of my two favorite communities are coming together tonight! I'm so excited! The band Tiptons is playing tonight, January 19th at Pjs Pub and grill Owasso, at 9:00 p.m.! I love their song "What use to be the Country". The song is about my hometown, good ole Verdigris, OK and tonight they will be in my second favorite town, Owasso! Cant wait and hope to see you there!
