The new 120 room Shangri-La Hotel and Convention Center is now finished and has been very busy since it's completion. Doc's Bar and Grill next to the large swim and play area and Eddy's Bar on the waterfront were both very busy this summer. Eddy's replaced the old Island Joe's Bar by the Marina. There are still plenty of open docks for Grand Lakers to park their boats while having sandwiches and drinks at either location. Docs Bar and Grill at the hotel has outside service areas for the large pool and play areas for guests.

The last Hotel and convention center at Shangri-La resort was closed ten years ago. Finally with cooperation with the Cherokee Nation Monkey Island, Grand Lake and Shangri-La will have first class accommodations again.

New businesses and expansions coming to the Grand Lake area are creating up to 500 new jobs over the next four years.

A new 120 room hotel is being added to the Shangri-La Golf Resort on Monkey Island at Grand Lake. The new hotel will be accessible by land and water and will have a casual dining restaurant, convention space, resort pool, plus a indoor and outdoor bar/grill. The hotel will replace the previous Shangri-La hotel that was closed and demolished in 2006.

The Cherokee Nation has announced plans for their tenth Casino in Oklahoma....The new Cherokee Casino at Grove. The new casino's first phase will start this year and be built just north of Sail Boat Bridge north of Grove. The initial phase of the casino is suppose to be 39,000 sq ft and have 400 Electronic games plus dining, dancing and lots of fun. The initial phase should provide 175 new jobs to the area.

Beautiful lake area communities are scattered all over this famous "island". It is the vacation home capital of Grand Lake! The Road Hog has great food so give it a try when you visit. Truly a great place to live.
