  • As the summer scuba diving season has come to a close, it is interesting to note that Lake Tenkiller has a premier scuba diving park. Established in 2005 in cooperation with the Department of Tourism & Recreation, this dive park has many different underwater features to explore. There is a school bus, a Coast Guard helicopter, and many other boats and monuments to see. I have provided a link below with a map of the various objects that have been placed into the lake at different depths to provide something for every skill level. There are two dive shops located nearby that can provide for all of your dive supplies, rentals, and instruction. The diving season starts in May when the water temperature begins to rise again.

I challenge you to make it a goal this next year to get to the bottom of the lake and spend time getting certified in the exciting sport of recreational scuba diving! For more information on learning how to get started with scuba diving, contact OkieScuba.com, Gene's Aqua Pro's at 918-487-5221, and Nautical Adventures at 918-457-3483.
  • The Cookson Wildlife Management Area is a hidden gem in the southeastern corner of our great state of Oklahoma. There is so much to see and do on the 14,725 acres of the uplands wildlife area. You'll also find abundant turkey, deer, rabbits, waterfowl, and more wildlife here.

The park is an area of tree-filled hills, valleys, ponds, marshlands, and open fields. There are a lot of trails for off-roading and hiking throughout the area. There is a small fee for entering, but it is worth every penny. Cars are not recommended as the terrain consists of steep hills and stream crossings. Instead, bring your truck or jeep to drive in this natural wonderland. There are also no amenities or stores in the area so bring your supplies with you. Hunters can camp out in primitive tent sites which are allowed. If you are in this area or looking for a destination to explore, the Cookson Wildlife Management Area is a neat place to explore.
  • Lake Tenkiller is one of the cleanest lakes in the state and offers great family fun. With multiple marinas to put in at you're never far from lounging on the lake. Great dining right on the lake and nice beaches for swimming. You'll keep coming back year after year!
  • I've lived in Cookson for 20+ years and love this area! We are situated on beautiful Lake Tenkiller and surrounded by the rolling foothills of the Ozarks. We have some of the best views and friendliest people. Whether you want to settle down and raise your family or have a lake get-away, Cookson is the town for you!
